Manipur : Father, Two Infant Daughters Killed After Car Falls Into Pond

IMPHAL : Amidst the celebrations, a tragic incident took place on Monday night, 2nd of January 2023. A father along with his two infant daughters died as the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and fell into a pond. 

The episode occurred in Samurou Oil Pump on Mayai Lambi highway in Manipur's West Imphal district. The man who who was driving the car has been identified as Kongkham Jayanta of 47 year old. He is a resident of Uchiya Mayai Leikai located in Imphal West. 

The police has suspected the cause of accident due to loss of control, as the vehicle was at a very high speed. The man couldn't control as a result of which the Maruti 800 skidded into the pool. 

Though the exact scenario was not been witnessed by anyone, however, the cops suspected that the father and both the infants failed to get out of the car on time. Unfortunately, the trio submerged into the water body. 

The locals rushed to the spot and tried pulling out the drowning car and the victims. 

They were immediately taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. But the younger daughter identified as Kongkham Bijubala of 4 years, died on her way to the hospital. 

The elder daughter has been identified as Kongkham Abe of 7 years old and her father Kongkham Jayanta took their last breathe in the medical on Tuesday. This is one of the most painful occurrences in the beginning of the year. 

Several efforts has been initiated by the concerned departments to minimise the number of road mishaps. This has shown fruitful outcomes in the festive season. 

However, few incidents have been reported despite these efforts. On the 31st night, three youths died in Assam's Cachar district. The episode took place after their bike lost control and had hit a tree. Two of them died on spot while the other succumbed to his injuries in Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
